The method
History of Manual Lymphatic Drainage
- Vodder technique
Dr. Vodder and his wife, in 1932, were working as masseurs. They discovered that all of his patients had swollen lymph nodes in their necks.
At that time lymph was a taboo for masseurs and even for doctors. The predominant idea was not to take it into account in any way, being considered a medical "Pandora's box".
Vodder, through intuition, dared to break this taboo and treated swollen lymph nodules intuitively and successfully. The patients' colds disappeared. Thus encouraged by these successes, he developed the DLM method that we apply today.
First revealed to the public in 1935, the method was joined by other practitioners (masseurs, physiotherapists, doctors, etc.) who provided scientific foundations for the effects of DLM. Later, the German Lymphological Society created a section in its favor entitled "Therapeutic Lymphatic Drainage and Cosmeto-dermatological Lymphatic Drainage".
Its fields of action
Effects
> Toning on blood and lymphatic vessels
> Analgesic and sedative on the sensations of pain by the action of a slow and positive touch on the lymph nodes themselves linked to the pain nerves.
> Immunostimulant with regard to the action of lymph on general cellular and humoral immunity, the latter drained by massage.
> Draining and detoxifying accumulated fat cells and edema, reduces cellulite and relieves the feeling of heavy legs and water retention.
> Healing and repair accelerator in functional and traumatic problems, with a regenerative action on skin and lymph tissues.
